A Trendsetter Book for India`s Leader & Scientist APJ Abdul Kalam :
I thank the almighty for giving me the opportunity to write this book “Dr.A.P.J. Abdul kalam –A Trend Setter”. The word trend indicates a general direction to a particular destination.Courage to think different is trend setting. Courage to discover is trend setting. Courage to combat the problems and succeed is trend setting. Judging on these lines, is it not proper to call Dr.kalam a trend setter? I leave the answer to the critical reader.Dr. A.P.J. Abdul kalam setting himself a role model took along with him millions of people to a glorious new world.
As professor of English at the Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai, I was the first person to include the writings of Dr.kalam in the syllabus of the Madras University. His “wings of Fire”and the Ignited minds” moved me to this great personality. His thought provoking ideas in lucid English delighted me very much. After his term was over as the president of India, he left the presidential palace just with two suit cases full of books bought from his own funds. It is here I was struck within wonder of Dr. Kalam’s trend setting. The idea of writing this book came to me when I met him at a function conducted to felicitate him in Chennai. This book is entirely different from the other books written by Dr. Abdul Kalam and his friends. Those are about science and the achievements of Dr. Kalam as a Scientist. In this book my aim is to bring out Abdul kalam the Man. The book deals with Kalam’s simplicity, humility, generosity, righteousness, spirituality and other noble qualities of a great soul. The book contains fourteen chapters and deals with Dr. Kalam from the “paper boy to the people’s President of India”. In recent history only a few people had endeared themselves to the young and old, to the poor and rich, to the educated and the unlettered and to the people belonging to different faiths and speaking different languages. Prime minister Modi describes him as a “marg darshak”.
Dr. Kalam is first a teacher and then only the President of India. After retirement he would have taken completeV rest enjoying the facilities given to all the Former Presidents of India. But Kalam believed that rest makes the man rust. Till his last breath he wanted to teach, teach and teach. He was a visiting professor at five universities – the Anna University in Chennai, the Gandhigram Rural Institute in Madurai, the IIIT in Hyderabad, the Nalanda University in Patna. Bharat Ratna Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam during a lecture died at the Indian Institute of Management in Meghalaya capital. What a passion for teaching! Dr. Kalam was
“A teacher born not made.
To him teaching was not a profession
But a vocation”
